Harvest Report

People who support this project are typically interested to know how “our acres’ did this year.

Here’s a quick summary, using all the verbs we hear amongst farmers, expressed in bushels per acre (bu/ac), along with some beautiful photos we received from them while they were on the field:

-              At Bruno, Hergott’s spring wheat ran 72 bu/ac, considered a strong result.

-              Near Rosthern, Janzen’s canola went about 50 bu/ac, a reasonable result for the weather they had.

-              At Goodsoil, Sonntag’s oats came in at 89 bu/ac, which is lower than it often is particularly in that region. However, this seems to correspond with the dry conditions they experienced during the early part of the growing season.

-              In Biggar, Dolack’s spring wheat did 55 bu/ac, a solid result for them and their area.

-              Near Willowbrook, Prybylski’s canola yielded 55 bu/ac, which is a strong result for that crop historically and becoming increasingly common in the area due to abundant rainfall.

-              Near Main Centre, Siebert’s durum wheat averaged 45 bu/ac, and strong result especially in light of the previous few years of very dry conditions.

-              In Langenburg, Aberhart’s spring wheat recorded 82 bu/ac, a very strong result!

In Brian Hergott’s words, “God is good, and collectively we feel blessed by a bountiful growing season. While crop prices are somewhat depressed, we are confident that as a Christian response to hunger, our efforts together with God’s grace and presence, will enable many others around the world to have access to the food they need for today, and for tomorrow.”
